Avery Gardner, DNP, APN, FNP-C

Avery Gardner, DNP, APN, FNP-C is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who joined Princeton Dermatology Associates in 2017. She earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from Rutgers University in 2017.

Avery received her nursing degree from Brookdale Community College in 2012 where she was named the Outstanding Student of Science and Health Sciences. There served as both the Vice President of the Honor Society and the President of the Brookdale Student Nurses Association for 2 years.

She began working as a Registered Nurse in 2012 at Riverview Medical Center while serving as a board member for the NJ State Nursing Association. She then received her BSN from Rutgers University in 2013 and began working at Monmouth Medical Center on their Cardiac and Stroke unit. After working as charge nurse for two years she was promoted to the Clinical Nurse Leader of the unit, a position she held until she completed her doctorate degree.

At Monmouth Medical Center she was an active member of the Shared Governance council and was the co-creator of the Teach Back patient education program which has been implemented throughout the RWJ Barnabas Health system. The importance of educating patients about their diagnosis in a way that they can understand and implement in their lives carried over into her doctoral research project at Rutgers University where she implemented a skin cancer screening tool focused on educating patients of their risk of skin cancer. In addition to her primary care clinical hours, Avery also completed a dermatology externship during her final year at Rutgers and in 2017 graduated from Rutgers University with her Doctorate in Nursing Practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

She is currently an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and the National Academy of Dermatology Nurse Practitioners. In addition to her caring for the patients of Princeton Dermatology Associates, Avery is also serving as an adjunct professor at Brookdale Community College teaching in the nursing and health sciences department. For fun, Avery enjoys traveling, working out, reading and spending time with her family, friends and fiancé.
